Cobb Unser traveled the galaxy as a young free trader with his sister, Corla, as his co-pilot. Cobb was never very successful in his business, always in debt and owing favors to somebody. As a result, he always tried to find shortcuts to help him settle his debts. But, his situation got worse with every attempt.

Cobb and Corla arrived on Kal'Shebbol while attempting to flee from some bounty hunters about a year before the New Republic attacked. When he could not pay the starport tariffs, Moff Sarne had his ship impounded. The pair tried to find work to purchase passage off-planet as a result. Cobb did some repair work on droids and some starships, while Corla worked as a repulsorlift driver that performed deliveries throughout the starport. Within a few weeks, Corla disappeared without a trace, and nobody had an answer for her worried brother. That is, nobody except Loh'khar the Finder. He told Cobb that Moff Sarne had abducted her and sent her on one of his smaller courier ships into unknown territories. Cobb has since determined to find her someday.

Cobb's demeanor is pessimistic and morose. He is bullied very easily by those of higher rank and even by many of lower rank than him. Avoiding other crew members when possible, Cobb spends his off-hours with the ship's droids, treating them as friends. He cares very little about anyone else on the ship.

Cobb is frequently watching for bounty hunters or debt collectors that may still be after him. In addition, he owes an unspecified favor to Loh'khar the Finder for helping him find out about his missing sister.
